Our Position on the
"Royal Basque Shepherd"
In the past few months,
an attempt has been made to "pirate" our variety of Australian Shepherd.
The people involved have set up a bogus web site and stated that the
"Royal Basque Shepherd" is formerly known as the miniature Australian
Shepherd.
This is not true.
There currently is no known breed by this name. There is a Basque
Shepherd in Spain but the dogs look entirely different and have no
genetic similarity.
The two parent clubs of the Miniature Australian Shepherd Club of
American and the North American Miniature Australian Shepherd Club
are active and have no intention of changing their names. At this time,
a merge has been discussed.
Why would someone be
doing this? Profit. Changing a breeds name, and setting up an alternate
"registry" for the purpose of diverting
funds. Its easy to create yourself on the Internet - a fancy web site,
and a sincere story. Do not be fooled. The ONLY parent club(s) for the
Miniature Australian Shepherd and the North American Miniature
Australian Shepherd were established over 13 years ago and
have a respectable and secure registry that has been in existence
for almost that long.
Before you are fed a line, talk to those breeders who have been in
existence for longer than a year or two. And refuse to contribute to a
"pirated" breed club that has been in existence for 1 month.
